Media Development
Since 2008, Brand X has become increasingly involved in assisting independent media in countries where freedom of expression, armed conflict, poor infrastructure and inadequate training present major challenges.
Our work so far has exposed us to dedicated media practitioners in countries such as Iraq, Sudan and Yemen. The risks they take to maintain independent reporting in the face of adversity are supported by Brand X primarily through new commercial strategies and technical development, all with the underlying aim of uncovering new income streams which can ensure their long-term survival.
Much of our work in media development is performed in collaboration with International Media Support (IMS). Brand X and IMS have a highly complementary relationship, in which IMS’s expertise in media rights advocacy, journalistic training, forging partnerships and its commitment to on-the-ground, practical assistance is combined with Brand X’s news and advertising industry experience, analytical skills and in-house web development capabilities. Brand X’s media development and sustainability strategies are conceived with the commitment and capability to implement those strategies and measure their impact.
